About the event
VRï’s music, combining two fiddles, a cello and powerful vocal harmonies, is a unique soundscape that re-interprets Wales’ rich and diverse repertoire of traditional music. Three young men from deepest, darkest chapel-going Wales mine the cultural upheaval of the past 200 years and draw inspiration from the incredible story of a time when Wales’ traditional music and dance was suppressed by Methodist chapels, and, earlier, its language by the Act of Union. Seizing the remaining strands of subsumed tradition and music, VRï’s music blends them into a joyous celebration of Welsh identity, harnessing the energy of the fiddle and the finesse of the violin, the pub session with the beauty of Viennese strings. As a contemporary rediscovery of a lost tradition, VRï’s work perfectly conjures up the sounds and the lives of the souls who played and sang to preserve what we enjoy anew today.
VRï are Jordan Price Williams (cello, voice), Aneurin Jones (violin, voice) and Patrick Rimes (viola, violin, voice).
VRï’s debut album ‘Ty Ein Tadau’ (House Of Our Fathers) received Best Album and Best Traditional Welsh Language Track in the Wales Folk Awards, a nomination for the Welsh Music Prize, and their track Ffoles Llantrisant received a nomination for Best Traditional Song at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2019.
"VRï are not just three stunning musicians; they summon up a magic chemistry that is absolutely bewildering, mesmerising and thoroughly addictive." Mick Tems, FOLKWALES
